Glam-O-Mamas is the Facebook Group for the blog readers of this blog.
When I conceived Glam-O-Mamas, the online site in 2011, I envisaged it as a web magazine that would be able to tutor and guide inexperienced moms on their new journey through articles and first hand experiences of myself and other mothers. I also wanted it to be an avenue to connect my readers together for support and compassion. At the time, the forums for websites weren’t that great or moderated properly and my concept for a shared online community slowly dissipated. Fortunately, I was able to bring this vision to fruition two years ago when I created the Glam-O-Mamas discussion group on Facebook.
Today, I am proud to say we are a group of over 14,000 members and growing. I think one of the main draws of the group is that it is a protected place for discussions on motherhood and life in general. We are a female only group and I try (along with my web manager Martine) to stringently screen members before they are accepted into the community. You wouldn’t believe the number of men, sellers, spammers, and trolls we get everyday applying to the group! The GOM group is not a selling platform, although I do have a “Marketing Monday” limited thread for people who are interested in buying or selling things. But it is not a primary function of the group.
A real community
Really, the group is here to support women in their lives and journeys. I’m proud to say that this Glam-O-Mamas community has helped many members with questions, queries, problems, and issues about everything from babies and children, to schooling, to marriages to helpers and so much more. It has become a safe haven for meaningful discussions and advice on this adventure we call life.
There are many sensitive issues that are brought up through the avenue of anonymous posts which help shield the member from judgment and scrutiny but still allow her to procure advice she so desperately needs and may not be able to obtain anywhere else. How amazing is that? I love that my members don’t have to feel alone in their problems anymore. The amount of encouragement, defense, and assistance that each complex post gets is immense and inspiring.
In Glam-O-Mamas, women really talk and bond. Some have even burgeoned into smaller groups who actually meet up and hang out.
My Glam-O-Mamas Facebook group has surpassed all my aspirations and has taken on a vivacity of its own. It’s one of my babies that has me so fulfilled, as I know it is relieving, serving, empowering, and buoying women up on a daily basis.
To my Glam-O-Mamas members, a big thank you for being a part of this wonderful group. Always remember that we are in it together.
