Staycations are bliss. Staycations with your girlfriends are even better because they are the best way to recharge, rejuvenate, and reset with women who need a rest as much as you do! I went to the Capella Singapore in Sentosa with two of my girlfriends and had the best time.
You know I love my girlfriends. They are sounding boards, comic relief, eating (and wine drinking) buddies, my life raft in stormy seas. Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved getting together with the girls. It’s not just fun, there’s something so therapeutic about it. As a working mom, life is one big schedule with each activity, meeting, and mommy duty rolling ceaselessly one after the other. Last December I was getting a bit stressed as I tend to do when the last month of the year approaches because it is always like my schedule is on steroids. It’s a relentless frenetic cycle of to-dos that leave me with barely enough time to breathe. When one of my friends suggested a girls-only staycation in the Capella Singapore to help us refuel our energy for the crazy season, I squealed with excitement. Yessssss!! A much needed, much deserved break from it all for 24 hours with two of my favorite girls? It was a no brainer.
We each arrived separately at Capella, which is located on Sentosa Island, after attending to and preparing for all our kids (8 between the 3 of us) needs for the next 24 hours. Yes, they can function without mom for 1 day! I was immediately whisked by golf buggy to our luxurious garden villa, which had a gorgeous sitting room, plunge pool, and deluxe bathroom complete with outdoor shower.
A delicious array of nibbles awaited and my friend and we opened a bottle of wine and were transported right into relax mode while waiting for our other friend to arrive.
We got to lounge, laugh, and catch up with no time constraint all in the beauty of the lush foliage that surrounds all Capella villas. A simple indulgence that we don’t get to have often. When our third friend finally arrived we headed to Bob’s Bar which is inspired by Havana’s glory days and Capella Singapore hotel’s distinctive old-world charm.
We caught the sunset gazing at the South China Sea on the large daybeds with their signature Pineapple Mint Julep cocktail (my new favorite!).
After the sun went down, we enjoyed a scrumptious Cuban feast where the Capella had prepared vegetarian items just for me. I appreciate establishments like Capella that personalize their service and get to know each guest’s preferences. It really is the little touches and attention to detail that make the whole experience so magical. On the weekends you can dance up a Cuban salsa storm and enjoy Cuban fare at Bob’s Bar for some real fun!
After dinner we headed back to our villa because we wanted to just get some quality girl time in. Oh, if only you could have heard our conversations. My tummy hurt for days from laughing all night. It truly is the best medicine. We went to bed with snail masks on our face (as you do) and woke up fully recharged from a night of sleep on their luxurious Pratesi linens. We enjoyed a healthy breakfast with the peacocks (I made a new friend!) at The Knolls, their Mediterranean restaurant that offers a sensational view of Capella Singapore’s three cascading swimming pools.
Another unique feature of Capella is how they married the original Colonial buildings built in the 1880s with modern architecture for their rooms and villas. The whole resort is holistically built around trees and greenery that has preserved the old Singaporean historical feel, making every guest feel private in over 30 acres of rainforest.
Next up was a morning by one of their pools. You just can’t beat the ocean view. I love any place that celebrates and respects nature and Capella is one such place.
Another favorite feature are all the peacocks puttering around. Did you know that the peahens (female birds) in Capella are also so spoiled that they are allowed to lay their eggs wherever they please? Thankfully, they all choose the water feature facing the 5 star award winning Auriga spa. As we were quite full from the divine breakfast buffet we all decided to wait for the Capella Festive Afternoon Tea. After another cocktail (whoops! We were on holiday after all), we made our way to the Chef’s Table where we were treated to a series of Christmas delights paired perfectly with a cup of freshly brewed tea. The perfect ending to the perfect 24 hours.
Sometimes you just need a small break to reset. It’s even better if you can do it with your girlfriends, as you will surely have the time of your lives, chatting, giggling, eating, drinking, and just enjoying. Our Capella Singapore staycation energized and refreshed us enough for the December Christmas chaos that has since ensued.
I can’t recommend Capella Singapore highly enough if you are looking for a hotel to stay in. It’s luxurious, has highly personalized service, and is set in a resplendent Sentosa alcove of verdant greenery adjacent to the beach. Paradise if you ask me.
