For me, our world can be a pretty scary place because of our lack of respect for our environment. We use and abuse our planet (cause!) and are paying the price via pollution, global warming, water shortages, toxic food sources, to name a few (effect!). Due to this state of our earth, I am always searching for solutions to make it a healthier place for my family.
Last year in Singapore we were exposed to extremely hazardous air that was blowing in from Indonesia as a result of the burning of Sumatran forest for palm oil. It was a frightening glimpse into the future for my children. A world where people will have days when going outside will be too dangerous because of the toxic air quality. We now have three air purifiers in Singapore and Manila. As you are probably aware Manila’s air is highly polluted, especially if you live in the city. The PSI is usually in the red zone. You can check the air quality index for a clearer picture of the air you breathe in any given city. Because I have three small children (including a baby), I feel that air purifiers are a necessity rather than a luxury. Babies and children’s lungs are very immature and are still developing. Being exposed to polluted air is detrimental to that development and so unhealthy for your child. It’s also pretty darn unhealthy for the rest of the family too. I always say you can’t control the air you breathe (outside) but at least you can help keep the air inside your home safe and clean. Doctors recommend the use of air filters in highly polluted areas.
When I was selecting my air purifiers last year I was persuaded to go with Sharp because of their unique Plasmacluster Ion (PCI) Technology which clears the air by dispersing positive and negative ions – similar to the ones found in nature – to neutralize airborne pollutants like viruses, allergens, bacteria, and microbes. I chose the KC-D60E model because it has special modes (Haze Mode/Rainy Mode/Child Lock Mode), a hepa (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter which can remove 99.7% of particles that are 0.3 microns or larger, and a humidifying system.
Unfortunately we live in a world where these sort of appliances are essential because of the way we are treating the planet. Out of any of the appliances you should spend money on, air purifiers are definitely a safe investment for your family’s future. Unfortunately I don’t think the air quality will get any better in the coming years.
The Sharp Plasmacluster Air Purifier UV+ is available at Anson’s, Abenson, and SM Appliance Centers in the Greater Manila Area.
