When it comes to my hair, I’ve always found it challenging to find the right products. My hair is very fine, thick, wavy, and prone to frizz. My pursuit became virtually impossible when I began replacing my beauty, hygiene, and home products to ones that are gentler on the environment and have less chemical ingredients. For the last 8 years, all the natural hair care products that I tested just didn’t do the job properly, particularly the conditioners. My hair constantly felt dry and tangled. In the last 2 years I had all but given up and gone back to using more mainstream products that had more nasties in them than I was comfortable with but I felt I had no alternative. Until I tried the Aura Botanica natural hair care range of Kerastase. Finally there is a product line that meets all three of those standards that I mentioned: a reduction of the product’s environmental impact, proven efficacy and performance, and more natural ingredients with marginal chemical content.
This range works because the Kerastase lab technicians worked tirelessly and made groundbreaking scientific discoveries with regards to natural hair care. The Bain Micellaire (shampoo) really cleans your hair without the use of sulfates or silicones. The cleansing comes from naturally effective and foaming active ingredients found in coconut oil. The Soin Fondamental (conditioner) penetrates the hair fibers thanks to the Argan oil component and detangles thanks to a high concentration of natural oils. The Concentre Essentiel (Nourishing oil blend) is 99% natural and helps tame frizz and provide hair hydration. The Essence d’Eclat (moisturizing oil mist) is an infusion of nutrients for your hair, which lasts for up to 3 days.
MINIMAL HARMFUL INGREDIENTS
The Aura Botanica range is comprised of an average of 98% natural origin ingredients and is 97% biodegradable. There are no silicones, no sulfates, and no parabens.
REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
This range has a much more sustainable design. The lighter packaging significantly reduces the use of plastics. The Bain Micellaire is the first Kerastase product to be packed in 100% post consumer recycled plastic. The range is also manufactured in the Burgos factory in Spain, which has a neutral carbon footprint.
Kerastase espouses the ethos of sustainability and social responsibility for Aura Botanica and actually delivers on their promises. They have solidarity sourcing programs for all the ingredients. Moroccan Argan Oil is one of the main ingredients of this range and Kerastase is empowering the indigenous Berber women through the cooperatives that provide the Argan seeds. Now these women are contributing to the household income in a way that wasn’t traditionally possible before and this is playing a critical role in the local economy. It is the same with the sourcing of the Samoan coconut oil, another major ingredient, which is giving local Samoans access to sustainable jobs in poorer communities. Kerastase is assisting in raising the living standard for these communities, which is an amazing achievement.
I’m thrilled that Aura Botanica checks all the boxes. This range cleans my hair thoroughly, conditions well, adds shine, and defrizzes. I’ve honestly never tried products that were 98% natural origin that could achieve anything close to this. As an added bonus I love how Kerastase is engaging consumers to make sustainable choices, helping underprivileged communities, and striving hard to reduce their impact on the environment.
